About: Selle Francais Breed Horses
This warmblood type horse was developed by the French government, beginning in the early 1800s. Since then, the breed took a path other than most breeds, crossing its genes with Anglo-Norman and French Trotter horses. Many of the regional breeds in France came to exhibit many of the same characteristics after WWII because farm and cavalry horses were not as needed.
This lead French government to create an umbrella breed, the Cheval de Selle Francais, under which those regional breeds would be categorized.

Contemporary Selle Francais horses have been bred to excel in show jumping competitions. However, they are known to be successful competitors in dressage and eventing as well.
